2021 Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga Rioja 147 Aniversario
An interesting find here. First off, one of the largest limited time discounts we’ve ever seen, percentage-wise. We had several readers alert us to this one, so we were excited when we saw it in stores by us.
Costco’s regular price is $19.99, and until July 14, it’s reduced by 50{83994d7454f8ce68441ea8152244c292227c3db19076e7622c8f5ff92141c35a} to only $9.99. On top of that, a whopping 94 points from Wine Enthusiast along with an Editor’s Choice designation.
Obviously we picked a few bottles up, hoping for the best and we were overall very happy with what we found.
This is solid Tempranillo. Nothing special. Nothing too memorable. And for $10 it’s a very good buy.
The wine has a subtle nose with some tobacco, earth and light berry; in the mouth, it’s predominantly cherry flavor; really juicy, tastes younger than it is; baking spice in the finish.
The wine is pleasant all around, friendly and easy. We enjoyed it with grilled burgers and a small group of friends who agreed with our take on the wine.
We rated it 88, with one person going a point higher to 89. Definitely worth scooping a few up if you’re a Rioja / Spanish red fan.
