Started in 2001 by winemaker Joe Otos and two partners, Willowbrook Cellars in Sebastopol produces small quantities of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Syrah. The other partners include retired technology executive John Tracy and retired sales executive Ed Sillari. While the winery’s main focus appears to be Pinot Noir, the Zinfandel reviewed here is of excellent quality. Willowbrook wines are available at the winery and at selected retail outlets in California, Colorado, Ohio, and New Jersey. Willowbrook 2012 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley ($36) 88 The 2012 estate-bottled Pinot Noir is sourced from Willowbrook’s three-acre estate in Russian River Valley. It displays an earthy herbal character with a soft texture and high acidity on the palate. The mid-palate reveals a touch of sweet oak and the finish is dry and of medium length.
Willowbrook 2012 Pinot Noir Kaufman Sunnyslope Vineyard Sonoma Mountain ($42) 89 The Pinot Noir Kaufman Sunnyslope Vineyard is ripe tasting and flavorful. It reveals rich plum and black cherry flavors. It is soft on the attack with slightly earthy nuances and high acidity.
Willowbrook 2012 Zinfandel Pagnano Vineyard Russian River Valley ($32) 91 The Zinfandel Pagnano Vineyard is a very pleasant wine. It displays pure flavor of ripe cherry and toasted oak. It is soft and round on the palate and beautifully balanced. with silky tannins and a lovely texture on the finish.
